I need to apologize to my readers. I thought I could sit at home and nurse myself back to health, continuing my weekly column most weeks.
But for the past couple of weeks I’ve made some real mistakes which tells me it will not be as easy as all that.
First, I endorsed Anna Gonzales and said she was the wife of Richmond city commissioner Jim Gonzales.
Although I stand by my endorsement, Anna Gonzales is not now nor has she ever been married to Jim Gonzales and Jim Gonzales is no longer a Richmond city commissioner.
The very next week, I wrote that Rodney Vannerson had been arrested for stealing political signs. That was partly untrue. He was NOT arrested and thrown in jail. He was caught in the act and issued a citation.
There is a reason these mistakes happened. I trusted some media professionals and didn’t bother to check what they told me. I thought that since they were pros, they would have the facts, at least about such important things as the aforementioned boners.
So I am going to have to rethink my belief that I can continue my column while sitting at home and eschewing public functions. I guess I can write about some of my west Texas adventures and family foibles. I’ve had many people tell me how much they enjoy those columns which I’ve written them before. Of course maybe they said that because they were just relieved I didn’t write about them that week.
That’s all for this week and it may be goodbye forever…
