By the time you read this…..The Sturm und Drang are over, at least for another four years. I’ve yet to see a woman president and think at this point I will not live to see that. This column goes to press before the final count for the president although there were some pundits who said it may be next week before it’s finally decided.
I don’t think so. Maybe a day or so but nothing like the time Bush spent two weeks “cutting brush” and ended up with a big carbuncle on his face.
I think I know who will be president. But I’m not going into it here. I’m gonna save my rubbing your nose in it until next week.
Instead, I’m going to talk about some mundane things. Actually a column about mundane things usually gets me the most compliments which just shows you what my faithful readers really admire.
One more political thing…….I never get to attend candidates’ victory parties. We go to press Tuesday night and get it back from the printer on Wednesday morning where our carriers pick it up and whisk it to your homes. So on the Tuesday night of the election, I’m always at home keeping up with the vote so I can quickly e-mail the printer a story to fill in that hole I previously left on our front page. Somebody send me a pizza?
For those smart dinner parties…..I spent 65 years collecting pretty dishes and cute place mats and napkins for all those smart dinner parties I was always planning to have. However, I’ve spent the last six years cooking for grandsons only, eschewing dinner parties, and eating off paper plates, and cheap paper plates to boot. Plus my dining table is full of stacks of papers and remnants of the latest craft I’ve adopted. We eat off those paper plates in front of the television set in the living room/den. The last time I told them they had to eat at the kitchen table, they (the grandsons) looked at me like I had something nasty on my face.
It’s too late and too much trouble to do anything about all those pretty dishes. I’ll just let Michael and Lisa deal with them after I’m gone. Tee Hee.
