On Sunday, December 18, at 7:00PM, Southminster Chancel Choir will present its annual Christmas Concert.
This year’s concert will feature two major works: Ottorino Respighi’s “Laud to the Nativity” and K. Lee Scott’s “Sing the Songs of Bethlehem.”
Both works will be accompanied by a professional orchestra.
“Laud to the Nativity” is a gem of a Christmas cantata, rarely performed by church choirs because of its technical challenges. Respighi, who was largely an instrumental composer, mixes Italian, French, and Russian styles of music into this 25-minute musical setting of the Nativity story. The result is a wonderfully eclectic mix of Romantic styles and a lush, moving musical experience.
“Sing the Songs of Bethlehem” is a collection of mostly traditional Christmas carols in a “Lessons and Carols” sort of format, scored for adult choir, childrens choir, handbells, orchestra, and congregation.
You don’t want to miss this beautiful Christmas musical celebration, so mark your calendars for Sun., Dec.18.
