This past April, more than 200 guests danced away an evening to the music of The Houston Rebeats at Southminster School’s Denim & Diamonds Gala in the Stafford Centre. In addition to providing entertainment, the 14th biennial event also raised funds for school programs to the tune of more than $70,000.
Specifically, proceeds will be used to upgrade everything from SMART Boards to tighter security measures.
Denim & Diamonds featured a raffle for a 2012 FIAT 500 Sport, donated by presenting sponsor Texas Direct Auto, which was won by Nadine Moon, owner of event co-sponsor Who Made the Cake.
Big winners also included Missouri City residents Lauren Stratton, who won a one-carat diamond from Texas Gold and Diamond Exchange, and Lis Purdy, who won $5,000 in tuition to Southminster School.
Michael Garfield, the High-Tech Texan heard on AM 950 KPRC, served as master of ceremonies, and Fort Bend County Commissioner James Patterson held court over the live auction.
“The 2013 Southminster School Gala was an enormous success. Funds from this gala will go toward curriculum and technology enhancements that will be utilized by each and every child on campus. With sincere gratitude, the school administration would like to thank all the volunteers and participants for their generosity of time, money and talent. We would like to especially thank Carrie Conlon, gala co-chair, for her valiant and tireless efforts that made this gala a fun-filled night of fellowship that raised vitally important funds for our school family. This night would not have happened without Carrie’s commitment to Southminster School,” said Head of School Angela Holden.
