Stafford MSD Happenings – Did You Know….

The Stafford High School UIL Academic team brought home its 2nd District Sweepstakes award this weekend! The students and coaches are now preparing for the Regional Competion on April 16 and the state competition on May 5. Principal Rebecca Benedict said that this achievement is the result of hard working students and dedicated coaches establishing high expectations and following through with the extra effort to make this happen. She described winning the UIL Academics as to winning the Super Bowl of Academics and is very proud of everyone involved with this triumph! The UIL Academic Coaches are: Mr. Oseas Romero – Social Studies, Current Events; Mr. Joseph Nunoo – Mathematics, Number Sense, Calculator Applications; Ms. Jewell Handy – Prose interpretation, Poetry Interpretation, One Act Play; Ms. Sara Ghorbanian – Persuasive Speaking, Informative Speaking, CX Debate, LD Debate; Mrs. Lakesha Smith – Computer Applications; Mrs. Stacey Gridley – Literary Critique, Ready Writing, Feature Writing, Editorial Writing, Headline Writing, News Writing, Spelling/Vocabulary, and UIL Academic Coordinator. Go Spartans!

The boys’ 3A Varsity Soccer Team beat B. F. Terry High School Friday night 2-1 with goals by Tesfam Tesfay and Jesus Villarreal! The boys now move up to play in the Regional Quarterfinals. Coaches Chris Parker and Chris Rode are extremely proud of their athletes for coming out on top of teams from larger 4A schools. Go Spartans!

The Stafford High School DECA organization is partnering with the Houston Rockets to provide SMSD students and employees with discount tickets to their April 11 game against the Dallas Mavericks! Game time is 7:30 pm and every ticket purchased will result in a donation to DECA. A flyer is attached.

The 2010 Income Tax filing deadline is April 18th and the Neighborhood Tax Center is prepared to assist! Information concerning their services is attached and they have a location in Stafford at the Second Mile Mission at 504 Murphy Road, Stafford.
