Onlookers driving on SH 6 over by the Sugar Land airport have probably had a glimpse of the StarTex Power Stadium under construction. A media tour of the stadium last week settled some of the curiosity and confirms that 70 percent of the steel is already up. (l-r) Deacon Jones, Sugar Land City Manager Allen Bogard and Skeeters President Matt O’Brien stood in front of part of the seating bowl near the field’s home plate during the walking tour imagining the stadium to be already operational.
StarTex Power Field is undergoing construction for the April 2012 season opening. The vertical construction already shows the field and stadium taking shape. During last week’s media tour, Skeeters officials said that the dry weather was favorable for construction progress, but the harsh heat had some of the crews on site working during the evening hours. The ball park is expected to be ready for play in about six months.
