The award winning Austin Angels celebrated the induction of new members in ceremonies held at Stephen F. Austin High School. The rookie class this year is made up of 15 young ladies from Austin High School. The Austin Angels are the dance team at Stephen F. Austin High School.
This year, the induction also included inducting a new director and an assistant director, Ms. Lilian Mason and Mrs. Ashlee Williamson, respectively. Ms. Mason comes to Austin as a graduate from Austin High School and a former Angel officer, and more recently from the University of Houston where she was a member of University of Houston’s Dance Ensemble. Her dancing and choreography was also featured in the Emerging Choreographers Showcase, Canvas in Motion in December 2011 at UH. According to Ms. Lilian Mason, the new director, “The Austin Angels have taught me what it means to be a respectful, disciplined, goal-oriented, and compassionate. This organization is one of merit and value that has a lasting impact on the lives of its members, not only in the dance studio, but in all aspects of life.” Being a past Angel, Ms. Mason knows all about the Angel traditions. Mrs. Williamson, the new assistant director, is a 2003 graduate of The High School for the Performing and Visual Arts and more recently a graduate of Point Park University. During her time in Pittsburgh, PA, she had the opportunity to study with many renowned choreographers and be cast in the first ever off Broadway production of Contact. Mrs. Williamson first began working with the Angels in 2008 as choreographer between her contracts as an International Singer and Dancer for Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines. Mrs. Ashlee Williamson is looking forward to bringing her many talents to the Angels.
The Angels realize everything they do and think affects the people in their lives, and their reactions in turn affect others. Therefore, they have also believed in community service. The Austin Angels work in conjunction with AHS DECA, Travis Belles Dance Team and the Austin Bulldog Band to sponsor the Tracie Lynn Hester Life Donor Scholarship Walk (scheduled for November 10, 2012) and provide an Angel Junior Clinic in the spring for younger girls to learn about dance and what it means to be part of a team.
