The third annual Sugar Land Memorial Day Ceremony on May 30, at 10 a.m., at Sugar Land Memorial Park, 15300 University Blvd., will honor members of the U.S. Armed Forces who have given the ultimate sacrifice in defense of their country.
The event — organized by the City of Sugar Land — will include a presentation of colors, tributes from members of the community, a short essay reading from local students, words of remembrance from local veterans, and choral and patriotic musical selections.
Educational and commemorative activities throughout the park will allow families an opportunity to view several military displays, including artifacts and vehicles.
Houston Marine Moms will host a donation and care package booth supporting men and women serving overseas. Community members are asked to submit non-perishable items such as tuna/chicken packets, non-white crew socks, granola/power bars, hand sanitizer, sunscreen and beef jerky.
The City will provide pre-paid post cards for those who want to send messages of gratitude to U.S. Armed Forces members stationed throughout the world.
Free event parking will be available at the University of Houston at Sugar Land, 14000 University Blvd. Shuttle services will be provided for the general public. The free shuttle service will run between the university parking lot and Sugar Land Memorial Park from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Limited handicap parking will be available at the park. The general public is strongly encouraged to use shuttle services.
