Sugar Land Cultural Kite Festival set for March 3

Up, Up, and Away!

Kites will fill the sky at the City’s 3rd annual Cultural Kite Festival on Saturday, March 3, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., at Sugar Land Memorial Park, 15300 University Blvd.

Everyone is invited to enjoy the festival and participate in activities such as a miniature kite museum showcasing the diverse history of kite making, kite flying lessons and kite flying competitions. Don’t have a kite? Don’t worry! A kite-making workshop will be onsite for children to build, design and take home their own kites.

The kite contest is open to all ages, shapes and sizes! Anyone who wants to compete is encouraged to participate. There is no cost to enter, and first- , second- and third-place trophies will be awarded for each category. Registration will be located at the blue City of Sugar Land tent at the times listed below:

Other entertainment will include walk-around characters and various cultural performers; stilt walkers will also roam the meadow enticing the crowd with their visual artistry and movement. Face painting and henna tattoos will be available for children who want to partake in the festivities.

Limited parking will be available at Sugar Land Memorial Park. Additional parking will be available at the UH Sugar Land Campus, 14000 University Blvd., where free event shuttle buses will be available.

All activities and entertainment are free and open to the public, and refreshments will be sold by local food vendors.
