Surprisingly, the most important occupation in the world doesn’t come with a manual. The job of parenting brings a variety of challenges to the hearts, minds and patience of millions of competent individuals every day. Begin the year by gaining a new perspective on the subject of parenting at Sugar Land First United Methodist Church’s “Equipping Parent Seminars,” to be held from 6:30 – 8 pm on January 24 and January 31. The focus will be Good Marriages Don’t Just Happen on the 24th and Good Families Don’t Just Happen on the 31st.
Each of these lessons “stands on its own”. If you can’t come to one, the information missed won’t lessen your ability to learn from the other. Each session is free and no registration is required.
The seminars will be led by Cathy Garcia-Prats, who has been married for 38 years and is the proud parent of ten happy, well-adjusted sons, ages 18 to 36. These young men are well-educated, faith-filled individuals who show love and respect for one another, their parents and others. Even during this challenging era filled with demands on familial values, Cathy’s marriage and family works.
Cathy and her husband, Joe co-wrote Good Families Don’t Just Happen: What we learned from raising our ten sons and how it can work for you, Good Marriages Don’t Just Happen, and What To Do When Your Baby is Premature. She lectures nationally on family, marriage and parenting. She has been a guest on The Oprah Winfrey Show, The Gayle King Show, American Journal, Home Life, Positively Texas, and Primer Impacto, as well as many local radio and TV talk shows. Feature articles on the Garcia-Prats family have appeared in The Houston Chronicle, The Houston Post, The Dallas Morning News, Becoming Family, and The Ladies’ Home Journal, as well as stories in many newspapers throughout the United States. In 1998, the Garcia-Prats family was honored as “Houston Family of the Year” by Family Service Center at its annual “Celebration of Families” luncheon.
Don’t let parental frustration get the best of you. Instead, be inspired and encouraged as Cathy shares her philosophy of practicing love, respect, commitment and faith in marriage. The seminars will be held in The Venue of Sugar Land First United Methodist Church at 431 Eldridge Road.
