Sugar Land Garden Club has elected its new officers for the 2013-2014 year. The club was founded in 1932, making it one of the oldest garden clubs in the state. It presently has over 150 members. It is a member of Katy Prairie Conservancy and Keep Sugar Land Beautiful.
In addition, it awards two $1,500 scholarships to graduate students majoring in horticulture to Texas universities. Each year SLGC donates trees to the city, and recently selected a Mexican White Oak and a Cedar Elm for the dog park off University Dr.
Sugar Land Garden Club meets at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 702 Burney Rd. on the third Tuesday of each month at 9:30 am. This month, on February 19, Suzy Fischer will speak on Combining Ornamentals and Edibles to Create a Beautiful and Tasty Landscape. SLGC invites anyone to its meetings.
