Cart deliveries for Sugar Land’s enhanced solid waste and recycling program are complete.
Every household received a 95-gallon garbage cart and a 65-gallon recycling cart unless a different size was requested.
Residents are encouraged to utilize the carts immediately to ensure they are the appropriate size. If a different size cart is needed, contact Republic Services at (713) 726-7307. A cart change fee of $25 is normally required but will be waived for all requests received by
“We have received a tremendous amount of requests for different size carts, mainly due to Republic Services waiving the cart change fee until Nov. 30 to ensure our residents have their preferred cart size,” said Environmental Manager Dawn Steph. “To date, over 2,100 households have requested cart changes, and we expect this number to increase as we get closer to the fee waiver deadline. Republic will be contacting these residents to schedule a replacement day. This process will begin on Dec. 5 and will take several weeks to complete.”
Households in Sugar Land will receive automated garbage collection twice per week, automated recycling collection once per week, green waste collection once per week, bulky waste collection once per month and an on-call collection service. New service will begin on Dec. 5.
Sugar Land residents were mailed a solid waste program magnet detailing service days for the new program and the 2012 holiday collection schedule. The new service days by neighborhood are also posted online at
www.sugarlandtx.gov/public_works/solid_waste_recycling/solid_waste/find_pickup_day_12-5.asp; however, the new days do not begin until Dec. 5.
A new holiday collection schedule is posted online. Solid waste weekday collections will not occur on the following holidays: New Year’s Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.
Old garbage containers can be utilized for green waste collection, which begins Dec. 5. Residents can store grass clippings, leaves and other items in the container for collection on the designated green waste collection day. Containers made from a recyclable plastic that are no longer needed can be placed in the recycle cart. Containers that are not recyclable may be placed at the curb for collection on bulky waste collection days.
The blue recycle bins will be collected the first two weeks of December on the scheduled recycle day. Residents need to ensure their bin is placed at the curb by 7 a.m. on their scheduled recycle day.
