Officer Doug Adolph said when the woman asked the 25 year old renter for his share, he went to his room and got a gun. When he returned to the common living space, he put it to her head. He followed that action up by hitting her in the head with the gun. During the melee she was able to escape and run to a neighbor’s home and call 911 for help.
Sugar Land Police patrol officers responded. After several attempts, they were unable to make contact with the assailant inside the home. Shortly after the East side Fort Bend SWAT team, consisting of members from Sugar Land, Stafford and Missouri City police departments, the newly awarded Bearkat SWAT vehicle arrived on the scene. After several hours, having been unable to make contact with the man inside the home, police used a remote camera unit that peered into the residence through the windows.
Adolph said based on what the officers saw on the camera, they determined that entry had to be made into the home.
At 7:30 p.m police forced their way into the residence and discovered a motionless man on the floor. He appeared to be suffering from a single gunshot wound.
Adolph said the cause of death would be determined by the Medical Examiner. Currently it is believed that the deceased was the only person in the home.
The deceased man was identified as 25 year old Jared Ligon. Adolph said his family lives out of state.
