Book-lovers are invited to take a Book Break on Thursday, December 20, at George Memorial Library, 1001 Golfview in Richmond, beginning at 12:00 noon, in Room 2D. Bring a sack lunch and enjoy a literary discussion of Skipping Christmas, by John Grisham.
Middle-aged suburbanites, Luther and Nora Krank, decide to forgo the usual materialism and chaos associated with the Christmas season and to spend their savings on a 10-day Caribbean cruise instead. This simple act of rebellion sends the Kranks’ neighbors into an uproar. This satirical short novel paints a humorous picture of the holiday mayhem that reigns every December, but by caricaturizing the overblown commercial aspects of the holiday, the book also provides a reminder of the real purpose of the season that is often overlooked.
This book club is free and open to the public. Call the library at 281-341-2677 for more information.
