What if you contacted someone running for the school board, never got a response and later when that person was elected, you still couldn’t get a response? Byron Golden of Sugar Land tells the “Star” he’s tried six times. Two of those attempts to get in touch with Fort Bend ISD School Trustee Patsy Taylor were after she took office this May. The 22 year resident of Fort Bend County lives in Fresno, was sworn into office, and has been attending school board meetings.
What Golden wanted to know when she was running for school board was about her educational background, both her undergraduate and graduate degrees with respect to their names and her areas of study. In an email to Taylor last week, Golden said he wanted to hear a response from her and was requesting the information as a Fort Bend County taxpayer.
School board members were copied on Golden’s email to Taylor and a response from Trustee Sue Hohnbaum last Friday told him to check the school district’s website, ironically on the link for contacting the board, which includes educational and other bio information on board members. Communications Director Nancy Porter, also told the “Star” that bio educational information is on the district website. “It’s been there since she was sworn in,” said Porter.
“I keep asking for a simple reply, but I’m ignored,” said Golden. “She may have very impressive degrees, which qualifies her for this position, but I find it quite arrogant of her to ignore valid questions,” he said.
It’s important to note that when the “Star” also contacted Taylor when she ran for office, she did not return any of the calls when attempts were made to reach her by telephone at a number provided to the school district. That accounted for there being no photo in the FBISD candidate line up. By press time, she still had not responded to the “Star’s” email sent over the weekend relating to Golden’s concern.
“Dr. Taylor’s arrogant behavior is a disservice to me as a taxpayer and for all FBISD taxpayers,” said Golden.
Taxpayers can contact FBISD school board members by visiting the district’s website, including Patsy Taylor at email@example.com. Several years ago a state official was remembered from office for claiming a degree she did not have.
