New Orleans, Louisiana was the home of this year’s AAU Junior Olympic Games. Participants from all over the United States went to participate in various sports in search of junior olympic gold. Missouri City was well represented in karate for this year’s olympics, sending a team from the Dai-Ichi Shotokan Karate-Do School, in Missouri City, led by Hanshi Ricardo Johns Sr.
Under the leadership of Johns, the school sent 10 participants and each one came home with a medal. In all, the young warriors brought home 15 medals including 3 gold medals.
The participants were Britney Johnson, Michael Lane, Deidre Edens, Nathaniel Wilson, Timothy Lavallais II, Khalif Connor, Kasey Reliford, Sydney Reliford, Jarryd Allen, and Karina Harris. These 7 through 14 year olds showed great poise, sportsmanship, and discipline under a great amount of pressure. They represented Missouri City well.
Thanks to the parents of these very well mannered children and for taking the time out to go to New Orleans for the competition. Also, a big thanks to Hanshi Johns for having the patience in working with and leading these great kids in competition.
