The Fort Bend County Fair to honor Joe & Doris Gurecky

September 21, 2011 by FortBendStar

Shown are Joe and Doris Gurecky this year’s 2011 Honorees.

The 2011 Fort Bend County Fair & Rodeo is dedicated to Joe & Doris Gurecky. They have been avid supporters of the Fair, the community and the youth of Fort Bend County for many years.

The Gurecky’s are third generation Fort Bend County natives. Similar to many success stories, their achievements are preceded by very humble beginnings—each growing up on a cotton farm, the children of share croppers in the small rural communities of Fairchilds and Guy.

Being high school sweethearts, they graduated from Needville High School in 1956, married 1 ½ years later and made their home in Rosenberg. Their family consists of two daughters—Pam Koepke and husband Ken and their children, Blake and Blair; Tama Dorman and husband John and their children, Kylie, Kellen, Luke and Jacob.

Always realizing the need to give back, the Gurecky’s are very active in the community. Joe was a member of the elite committee that successfully raised $2.5 million for the Fort Bend Technical Center, a cooperative educational enterprise involving Wharton County Junior College and the Texas State Technical College; he was one of the five originators of the Taxpayer’s Coalition of Fort Bend County; serves as Board President of Oak Bend Medical Center and board member of the Polly Ryon Foundation; member of NewFirst National Bank Board of Directors; serves as a member of the WCJC Foundation Board and in 2005 was appointed by Governor Rick Perry to the TSTC Board of Regents. Joe is a Fort Bend County Fair Life Member.

Doris is currently president of the Women’s Club of Rosenberg, a 6-year director of Lamar Educational Awards Foundation (L.E.A.F.), a member of the Rosenberg Railroad Museum Gala Committee and a member of Grandpals – an organization which helps at Holy Rosary Catholic School. Both Gurecky’s are active in the Central Fort Bend Chamber Alliance, and in 2002 the Rosenberg/Richmond Area Chamber of Commerce presented Joe and Doris with the Business Person of the Year Award for their outstanding service to the community. Currently Joe serves as a lector and both of them serve as Eucharistic Ministers at Holy Rosary Catholic Church.
