The Literacy Council of Fort Bend County invites you to the 12th Annual Book & Author Dinner at Safari Texas Ranch on Sunday, January 29, 2012. This year, one of the featured authors is the philanthropist and wildcatter, Lester Smith.
Lester Smith’s memoir, You Gotta Dance Like No One’s Watching, is a new twist on philanthropy with proceeds from the book benefiting breast cancer and genomic research. He wants to give, and dance, as if no one is watching; although, the world has taken notice of Lester’s selfless giving. Lester is inspired to give without wanting any recognition for his gifts. He does not only donate monetary gifts, he also donates gifts of his time and energy to charitable causes.
A true philanthropist, Lester’s goal is to eradicate the epidemic of cancer. Through the numerous research institutions and cancer-free programs that Lester has been a profound donor and member of, his impact on the medical industry is evident.
Lester’s battles with cancer have prompted him to turn his personal battle with cancer into a very public campaign to find a cure for the disease. He’s gone seventeen rounds with two types of cancer and seen the oil industry through its bleakest days. There is no doubt that Lester is a survivor.
A ticket to the event includes a seated dinner, the opportunity to hear Lester’s uplifting stories of courage and strength, the chance to purchase an autographed copy of Lester’s book and the unique offer to meet other Texas authors. Additional featured authors at the event include: Jeff Abbott, Chitra Divakaruni, Kristin Finan, Ron Franscell, Karleen Koen, DiAnn Mills, Kyle & Jennifer Solak, Rodney Walther and William C. Welch.
