Lives are being changed every Saturday morning thanks to a very unique therapeutic skating program, which provides skating lessons for individuals with a variety of disabilities.
The smiles on the faces of the skaters speak volumes for the difference this program makes in their lives. The therapeutic skating lessons are a part of US Figure Skating Basic Skills program which allows skaters to earn proficiency badges as they advance through the various levels of the program. Skaters of all ages and abilities are welcome, and the program has been designed to include unassisted (skating alone) or assisted (needing a helping hand) skaters.
Trained coaches are with each skater every step of the way providing, in one mother’s words “an experience I never dreamed my daughter could have.”
The program, held Saturday morning sat 9:30am, is made possible by a donation of ice time by Sugar Land Ice and Sports Center, and STARskaters.org who provides financial aid and support needed for the therapeutic skating program, as well Sled Hockey.
