Congratulations to the Clements High School String Orchestra and the Sartartia Middle School String Orchestra on receiving top honors from the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA). The Clements String Orchestra, directed by Ginger Wolfe, was named the 2011-2012 High School Honor String Orchestra; and the Sartartia Orchestra, directed by Ann Victor, was named the 2011-2012 Texas Middle School Honor String Orchestra. Only one high school and one middle school are chosen each year for this prestigious honor, and Fort Bend ISD is honored to have both the high school and middle school honor orchestras represented in the District.
Both orchestras have consistently placed at top levels of state and national competitions throughout the years. Sartartia recently received National Orchestra Honors in the 2011 Mark of Excellence project. They were among 161 of the finest musical ensembles in the nation, representing 32 states, to enter the competition.
The Clements Orchestra was awarded the Mark of Excellence National Orchestra Award for 2008-2009; and was named Runner-Up for the 2011-2012 Full Honor Orchestra.
Both groups will be recognized at the TMEA Convention in February, where they will perform an “honor concert” for the TMEA membership and receive their awards. Prior to the February awards event, the orchestras will combine their musical talents for a “Good Luck” concert, which will be held on January 27 at 7:00 pm, at Houston Baptist University’s Dunham Theater.
