Recent Fort Bend ISD graduates Swathi Ariyapadi of Travis High School and Tucker Westfall of Austin High School are among students from across the state to be named on an additional list of National Merit Scholarship Winners. The National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) recently announced approximately 1,800 additional winners of National Merit Scholarships financed by colleges and universities. The Merit Scholar designees join nearly 2,500 other college-sponsored award recipients who were announced in late May.
Officials of each sponsor college selected their scholarship winners from among the Finalists in the National Merit Scholarship Program who will attend their institution. College-sponsored awards provide between $500 and $2,000 annually for up to four years of undergraduate study at the institution financing the scholarship. This year, 190 colleges and universities in 44 states and the District of Columbia are sponsoring about 4,300 Merit Scholarship awards.
Ariyapadi received a National Merit University of Texas at Dallas Scholarship and will study Pediatrics, and Westfall received a National Merit Texas A&M University Scholarship to study Chemical Engineering.
