Students enrolled at the Bilingual/English as a Second Language (ESL) Summer School Program at Armstrong Elementary School enjoyed a visit from Dr. Health E. Hound and other representatives of UnitedHealthcare during the school’s Wellness Wednesday event on July 24. The UnitedHealthcare representatives joined Armstrong summer school staff in promoting healthy lifestyles by involving students in physical activity and health lessons.
“Our summer school theme is ‘Super Hero Adventures in Learning’ and each Wednesday we focus on healthy living by providing students with various activity stations, nutritional snacks and literature from UnitedHealthcare,” said Felicia Holmes, Armstrong Summer School Principal.
Throughout the day, students in grades K-6 rotated between activity stations, which included a bean bag toss, football toss, jump ropes and hula hoops. The students also received copies of the Feel Good! Eat Healthy activity book from which they completed word puzzles and other activities while enjoying a healthy snack.
“At UnitedHealthcare, we are committed to working with schools to help children learn healthy eating and lifestyle habits,” said Charles Carter, Vice President of Sales and Account Management, South Texas Region. Wellness Wednesday is one of the many activities sponsored through UnitedHealthcare’s Community Engagement Program.
Armstrong is one of three Fort Bend ISD elementary schools to offer the Bilingual/ESL Summer School Program. Also offering the program are Cornerstone and Fleming Elementary Schools.
