Monday, shortly after noon, Sugar Land Police responded to a burglary in progress at a home on Savoy in the Venetian Estates neighborhood. As multiple patrol units converged on the scene, they were able to stop the fleeing crooks because an alert witness was able to provide police a good description of the suspect vehicle.
As the suspect vehicle turned off Savoy onto US 90A at the intersection of Eldridge Road, police snagged them. According to Sugar Land police spokesman Doug Adolph, a passenger in that suspect vehicle attempted to flee. After a brief struggle with converging officers, the suspect reached for a handgun he had in his waistband. Adolph said, after he lost control of the weapon, he fled on foot into a nearby neighborhood.
That suspect, identified as Robert Turner, 40, of Houston, was caught in that neighborhood and another struggle occurred. He was eventually taken into custody. The driver of the suspect vehicle, who has been identified as Jermaine Henderson, 27, of Houston, was taken into custody without incident.
Turner, a career offender, faces charges of burglary of a habitation, aggravated assault w/ deadly weapon, evading and resisting arrest, unlawfully carrying a weapon and possession of stolen property. Henderson also faces burglary and evading charges.
