Fort Bend County Office of Social Services and 89 volunteers served 796 children during its 2012 Back-to-School Walk with Pride Shoe Program on August 19.
Through the program, children of low income families registered to receive a free pair of shoes from select Payless Shoe Stores. Each eligible child receive
d one-on-one attention from a volunteer throughout the shoe selection process, and left with a new pair of shoes they can be proud of on the first day of school.
Anna Gonzales, Director of Social services stated, “Over 1000 children were registered and qualified for the program, however 234 were unable to pick up their shoes. We are contacting the families of those children and giving them a second chance to select their shoes.”
