Fort Bend County Libraries, in conjunction with Sugar Land Area Artists, will present a special artist demonstration of “Wax Batik Painting on Watercolor Paper” at the University Branch Library on Saturday, April 20, beginning at 1:30 pm, in the Small Meeting Room of the library, located at 14010 University Blvd in Sugar Land, on the UH campus.
Visual artist Shirley Blevins will demonstrate batik painting using wax and cold-water dyes. She will also show an alternative batik method that can also be very attractive and creative. Those attending the program will be invited to experiment with this painting technique toward the end of the demonstration.
Blevins received her degree in Interior Design from the University of Houston, and owned her own interior-design business and home-remodeling business before her retirement in 1998. She enjoys painting with watercolor, oil, pastel, and mixed media. Subjects often include people, pets, still-life, floral, landscapes, and abstracts. She has won numerous awards in juried art shows, and her work appears in business and private collections across the country.
The program is free and open to the public. For more information, call the branch library at 281-633-5100, or the library’s Public Information Office at 281-341-2677.
