Adults who want to earn their high school diploma or improve their English language skills now have expanded access to learning in the Wharton County Junior College’s Adult Basic Education Program. The addition of an online learning program provides students with additional practice outside the classroom and can reduce in-class time.
WCJC’s Adult Basic Education program delivers instruction for GED preparation, development of speaking and writing skills for non-English learners, and improvement in basic reading, math, and writing skills. Day and night classes are available throughout Colorado, Fort Bend, Matagorda and Wharton counties. All instructional services, including books, are free.
In addition to giving students flexibility on when they study, WCJC’s Distance Learning program enables students to gain immediate grades and feedback on tests and assignments. It also offers additional practice in a student’s weakest areas.
To enroll in the program, students must possess basic computer skills and have access to the Internet. They must also meet other basic requirements including attending an orientation and spending four hours weekly working in the Distance Learning curriculum.
