West Airport officially Re-opened

“After what seemed like forever, we were thrilled to have County Judge Bob Hebert, The Commissioner and so many others here to celebrate the official reopening of West Airport through Meadows Place” – Mayor Charles Jessup.

This modernization and reconstruction project was part of the Fort Bend Mobility Bond project designed to reduce congestion, increase traffic flow and to ensure that mobility is a positive factor for jobs creation and home ownership in both Meadows Place and Fort Bend County.

The ceremonies and ribbon cutting took place on Jan. 28. “The project includes the first large, easy to read backlit street signs in the county and all the new turn lanes make it a snap to just drive through or drop into the many businesses in the city” said Mayor Jessup as he stood beaming. “Businesses, like the ALDI coming soon to Meadows Place, have been waiting for this day too.”

Alderman John Isbell Rick Staigle, Meadows Place Alderman and Assistant County Engineer, pointed out “Meadows Place requested, and received TIP funds which saved the city and the county money on this project, which is very important.”

The project cost a little over four million dollars with the State paying a little over three million dollars. Fort Bend County and the City funded the rest of the project”.

Staigle also pointed out that Meadows Place is about to begin the second part of this project, which is the modernization and beautification of South Kirkwood through Meadows Place. The Kirkwood reconstruction, also a part of the Fort Bend Mobility Bond Project, was the recipient of an H-GAC study which recommended a design that will enhance traffic safety, flow traffic more quickly and smoothly through the city and will eliminate the stop signs on South Kirkwood. Construction to start late 2016 or early 2017 and will take about a year
