Memorial Day – Monday, May 30
Sugar Land to hold Memorial Tribute
By Elsa Maxey
In observance of Memorial Day, Monday, May 30, Fort Bend County, federal, state and local city offices will be closed. The county’s library branches will also be closed the day before on Sunday, May 29, and on Memorial Day. Regular library hours will resume on Tuesday, May 31. Locally, most banks, too, will be closed on Memorial Day as well as other work places.
Memorial Day is a time to honor those brave military men and women who served our country in the military and made the ultimate sacrifice of giving up their lives as they performed their duty.
In their remembrance, the City of Sugar Land will host an annual Memorial Day Ceremony on Memorial Day, 10 a.m. at Sugar Land Memorial Park, 15300 University Boulevard. There will be tributes from members of the community, patriotic choral and music performances, and educational and commemorative activities. The city of Sugar Land has made plans to give patriotic pre-postage post cards to attendees so they may express their gratitude to current soldiers or veterans. Those attending the remembrance are asked to bring the address of an honoree of choice to enter on the post card.
The city advises that shuttle services for the remembrance event will be provided at the University of Houston Sugar Land campus for the general public. For more information, interested persons are asked to call 281-275-2885.
