The call to Sugar Land Police began about 8:42 p.m. when a 911 caller reported that family members were fighting with men who had forced their way into a home in the 6000 block Briar Hill Court.
When police arrived on the scene they found one suspect detained by the homeowners and neighbors; the two others had fled in a silver Honda.
Immediately, other responding Sugar Land police officers saturated the area and found the suspects in the silver Honda near the intersection of Commonwealth and Elkins. After a traffic stop, the two fleeing suspects were detained for further investigation .
As the investigation at the home on Briar Hill Court unfolded police learned that one of the suspects, Francis Lau, had solicited the assistance of the two men, detained at the traffic stop, to assist him in collecting on an old debt from the one of the victims, on behalf of yet another person. According to police, the debt collection escalated into a fight. During that altercation, the elderly of the two victims, with hit about the head and face with a large landscape brick.
All three suspects were positively identified by witnesses. They have been identified by police as Francis Lau, 61, Shedrick Hemphill, 31, and Kiel Juron Mire, 29, and arrested for burglary of a habitation and injury to the elderly.
The victims were identified as 52 and 67 year old men. The elderly of the victims was admitted to the hospital with serious, but non life threatening injuries, reportedly a broken jaw and eye injuries.
