Fort Bend ISD will soon be searching for a new leader.

In a Monday news release, the district announced that superintendent Charles Dupre intends to resign from the position by December 2021. The announcement comes barely two weeks after the FBISD board of trustees voted 6-0 in favor of extending Dupre’s contract through 2024.

He will formally announce his decision during Monday’s regular board meeting, according to the district.

“My wife, Seeju, and I are in the season of life where our children are grown, and we are ready to pursue new adventures and opportunities,” Dupre wrote in a message to FBISD staff Monday. “We have devoted a total of 19 years of service to the FBISD community, and each day has been fulfilling and meaningful. And my heart tells me it is time for a change.”

Dupre joined the district as in internal auditor in 1995, then returned in 2013 after seven years leading Pflugerville ISD.

FBISD was awarded the 2018 H-E-B Excellence in Education Award as the best school district in the large district category in 2018 under his leadership. Dupre was also named the Region 4 Superintendent of the Year and finalist for Texas Superintendent of the Year in 2019. The district was also accredited as of the 2018-19 school year, and received a ‘B’ accountability rating from the Texas Academic Performance Report.

“The district has come a long way since Dr. Dupre returned to us eight years ago.” FBISD Board President Jason Burdine said in a news release. “Dr. Dupre’s integrity, student-focused approach, and commitment to excellence have propelled our district to new heights, becoming recognized as one of the most successful in the state. … FBISD is stronger than ever.”
