The end of the season has come for local high school softball teams. The last remaining area team in the UIL playoffs, Ridge Point, was eliminated last week.
The Lady Panthers lost 18-4 on May 20 and 17-4 on May 21 in a Region III-6A semifinal series against Deer Park. Ridge Point had been seeking the program’s first regional final berth since 2015.
The Lady Panthers’ Grace Janik hit a two-run home run in the May 20 loss, while senior Alexa Semeyn hit a solo shot in her final high school game on May 21.
Ridge Point finished the 2021 campaign with a 25-11 overall record, claiming the program’s fourth consecutive district title in the process. The Lady Panthers look to be primed for a reload next season, with many of this season’s starters expected to return next year.
They will graduate four seniors in Semeyn, Alliana Bryant, Lauryn Bogle and Aalan Keeton. Among the key cogs expected to come back are Janik – who led the team in homers and RBIs – along with junior pitcher and infielder Malyn Simmons, sophomore catcher and infielder Reagan Green and junior infielder Hannah Purvis.
